Smile To get the game or not ?

Hey guys I am new to this forum !

I just wanted to know if I should buy this game. How many quests are there in this game and how long do they take ? How many people play on the server at one time ? Is there a day and night rotation and weather ? Any thing I should know before I buy it ?

Please help me decide !

Your loyal and mabye possible future gamer...

"I just wanted to know if I should buy this game. "

Yes, it's fun.

"How many quests are there in this game and how long do they take ? "

There are a lot, divided into quests (side-jobs, for rewards and exploration) and missions (advance the story, fail = start mission over). There are also repeatable quests.

It really varies. Some quests are very quick, some quests and missions can take 1-2 hours.

"How many people play on the server at one time ? "

Don't know, don't care. The whole world is instanced, so you can go to Ascalon City and there may be 12 instances of it with a bunch of people in each. When you leave town you and your team are in an instance of that wilderness area and won't see anyone else.

PvP and PvE are totally separate. If you PvP you don't lose anything, ie, they don't take your stuff as loot.

"Is there a day and night rotation and weather ? "

No. They did a pretty cool Halloween theme in some areas though!

"Any thing I should know before I buy it ?"

It is not your traditional RPG and a lot of the pre-conceived notions of how a game should be don't apply. For example, monsters drop armor but that is just to sell or salvage. You get upgraded armor by having an NPC craft it for you at the cost of the raw materials and gold, or collect monster drops (like Minotaur Horns) and trade a collector for an armor piece.

The game is about skills, not about uber loot. My max damage sword is pretty much the same as your max damage sword. If we fight each other it is the skill of the player and the skill set used that really makes the difference.

It's been the only game I've played since May and I'm still enjoying it. I have dabbled in PvP but stick to PvE and have a primary character of each profession.

Get in a guild as it is more fun to play with other people, even if you aren't advancing your character it is still more fun to hang with others.

Another thing to notice is that this game is VERY PvP oriented. If you're only into PvE, you can do that, but you might get bored of that at some stage because most of the updates are for PvP'ers.
I don't mind but...

I've spent 650+ hrs, the VAST majority PvE
So it's not just for PvPers, but yeah it helps

( 3 ascended chars covering all classes and nabbing all the skills, more to do but getting close, takes time )

recently bought a copy for my wife, got other friends involved in the game
and complain very loudly when they dont consider PvE ( boneheads! )

It's a waste of time. Already wasted 1200 hours playing. :P

Seriously .... I enjoy the game a lot, and I'm 95% PvE

It took me just under 130 hours to complete it first time round, most quests and not all bonuses.

If you're worried about replay value, it's there. And enjoyability.

I think there's enough for PvE players to do to keep you busy for a long time, certainly enough to "earn" the $50 dollar retail (with no monthly fee, of course )

Sorrow's Furnace was a pretty big PvE update, the Halloween Event was super cool, I'm guessing there will be more stuff like that.

Plus, Chapter 2 is coming out next year!!!

So now's the perfect time to start playing!

The game rocks. Trust me. Theres so many quests for every little odd and end, and it's hard to gage how long it takes, depending on your playtime alotted.

There are tons of people in some areas, none in others, medium in others. It's all where people tend to be at which point in the game, as the game is storyline driven for the most part.

There is NO rotation to day/night, but some areas are night, and some are day. Same with whether. Some areas rain/snow, others are crystal clear. Don't this let you discourage buying the game, it's a very good one.

Before you buy: Read up on forums, get to know the layout and how things works. That's why we, "The loyal" Q&A people are here to help. But use the search button for topics before posting!

I too am considering buying the game... Ok, I am lying... I'm pretty much already sold on buying the game. In fact, I am fighting the urge to buy it RIGHT NOW. hehe

What I would like to know is.... I love to play and fight and quest, etc etc...so that is not in doubt. But I find myself thinking back to *hehe* the glory days of battlenet when you could make some nice online acquaintances while you played. (I recently began playing D2 again and am not finding the players on that battlenet quite as....ummmm...well, friendly...as they once were.) So I find I miss some of the socializing aspects of it. Does GW incorporate that?

Socializing? You bet. "Guild" Wars. =)

Guild Definition: A loose collection of people who share the same views on many different points. But I'm sure you knew this.

Hence the socializing isn't a problem..but sometimes in general chat it is, as you get spoiled 10 year olds yelling "STFU NOOB! LOLZ!" and stuff along the like as they bastardize the English Language.

hehe The Guild arrangement of GW is SO appealing. I can deal with the 10 year olds (they have completely taken over D2 it seems) so long as I can find a nice Guild to buddy with sometime Without sounding too old (I am only 30....sigh...that still hasn't sunk in yet) I was into Trade Wars 2002 and the GW Guilds sound a lot like the TW Corp. A couple of my closest friends are people I corped with.

Good to know I don't mind earning my way. In fact, I prefer it. I don't want to skip quests, etc. Half the fun of RPG is knowing you accomplished things and earned the items you have.... But I love the fact that people are helpful and socialize!

You are too sweet!! *big hug* And you have just eliminated my last reason to not buy the game. haha

I will probably begin playing within a few days. I'll let you know my moniker when I see what is available. Hubby will probably stick with D2 for a while. He is still hopelessly addicted as his jones is a new one.... hehe Frankly, I have even tried starting a new character in the hopes of reviving my interest, and am surprised it didn't work. Heck, I played Trade Wars for over 10 years and that is a DOS based game with no graphics....I still would be if any of my old corp were in game anymore.

From the sounds of it, GW will keep my interest for a long time to come.

a w/mo isnt all as bad as everyone thinks they are. just dont run the typical mending/healing breeze combo and think that youre invincible. run a more useful enchant like judges insight and stregnth of honor and youll have a much better warrior.

I was a little skeptical about the quality and depth of the game before I bought it because I wasn't sure one that allowed free online play would be all that great compared to say WoW. Well now I'm thoroughly convinced that this is one of the best games that I have ever played on a PC or console. BTW walmart.com has the game for $39...if you have a circuitcity or bestbuy they will price match it if you bring in the web price printed out.
